Role: DPS — Difficulty: hard
Maximilian relies on tactical thinking, strategic elimination and a quantic technology allowing him to virtually alter probabilities. He is a player, he likes to bet, take his chances and test his luck, but never without a back up plan, or more. He considers the battlefield like a game of chess, and wants to move around the pieces. He isn’t particularly fit to stand in the center of the battle, but he is a master at disorganizing his ennemies and capitalizing on chaos…
Passive: Roulette Dodge - there’s a 15 percent chance that hits won’t register on Maximilian, except for Symmetra’s turret, Dva Bomb and ally Ana healing shots. When it happens it shows a shimmering effect around him (like holographic after-images) and has a 2 seconds cooldown before it can activate again.
Weapon: Deck of Cards - above his hand, a deck of 52 holographic cards which can be shot like an automatic weapon. They are fast travelling projectile. When he reloads, he appears to shuffle them. They make almost no noise. Each cards deals 10 damage for 120 dps total if they all hit. Which is not as easy as hitscans. One out of the cards randomly deals triple damage, another one deals none.
Left click: Ace of Spade - a slightly slower pace attack which deals a hundred damage if it is shot in the back (only 50 from the front) and uses 5 ammo, for a total of 250 dps from the back and 125 from the front. It is possible to one shot a 200 hp with a headshot from the back (which makes it way less useful against some tanks like Winston, whose head wouldn’t be visible).
Ability one: Shuffle - Maximilien throws a special card to a target, and then activate it again to swap places with them. Works on friend or foe. It cannot work through enemy barriers and it is possible to avoid the card. A card appears above the head of the target for 6 seconds, after which it disappears and you cannot swap places anymore. Once used, the card disappear and you cannot swap anymore. The cooldown starts as soon as the card hits something, be it an object or a character. If you don’t miss your shot, you can have a Shuffle target at almost anytime. — 6 seconds cooldown.
Ability two: Jester’s Luck - Maximilien augments the effect of his passive to 50% without cooldown for 3 seconds — 13 seconds cooldown.
Ultimate: Shambles - Maximilien creates 5 holographic clones of himself who disperse and attacks ennemies with half his damage. His shuffle cooldown is reduced to one second and activate just by selecting a target, hallowing him to zap around the battlefield while the enemy is unsure which one is the real one, and catch them by surprise with his Spade. His clones never swap places on their own, they don’t benefit from his passive and last for 15 seconds. Since they shoot projectiles, it is possible to evade their shots, unlike the turrets.
Gameplay: Maximilien would be a strategic assassin type hero. While he could deal medium damage with his regular attack, he would shine by disorganizing its ennemies and dealing critical damage before escaping. His Shuffle ability would be the core of its build. It can serve for many purposes. The most obvious one is swapping places with one of the enemy supports, teleporting it among your allies to be killed, while you attack the enemy backline from behind. Then, once they turn to attack you, you can mitigate the damage with your Jester’s Luck long enough to swap places again, with an enemy or an ally. On the other hand, Shuffle can be used to save allies, for example relocating an enemy Mei before she freezes your Ana, or a charging Reinhardt / Dommfist. But used in the wrong way, it can also put one of your allies in jeopardy just to save your skin. I also love the idea of jumping off a cliff second before swapping places with an enemy, sending them to their fall (if you don’t miss the shot…). The only problem I see is that if you can do that to your allies… that’s hardcore troll potential…
Maximilien’s ultimate would be countered by Reaper death blossom, by Dva bomb, Sombra EMP and potentially Zaria graviton surge. But it would counter Genji’s blade or Soldier’s tactical visor by multiplying their targets. It would work very well with Mercy or Orisa ultimates, boosting all the clones to overrun the enemy team. Its Jester’s Luck works against tactical visor, making it even more difficult.
Heroes with movement ability would be less affected by its Shuffle, unless timed correctly, because they could relocate themselves anyway. Also, his Ace of Spade is akin to a Widow headshot in power, but also in difficulty. This makes him a difficult hero, but one who can completely cancel an enemy engagement.
